Update On IDES
So My group had been task to seek the answer to why is it so important to slow down. Why do people have to slow down whilst there’s no need to do so.
Well I think it is important to slow down.
When you are rushing the body literally is in panic mode. Most of the time when we are rushing, we do not even realize it because it is such an automatic response. If you’re always on the move, you are bound to get exhausted. As many people believe, life isn’t meant to be rushed.
Above all, slow down, relax and enjoy your life. These are the days of your life that you are living right now, not just some goal you are working towards at some point in the future. Take the time to relish them.

Why the need to rush?
Societies seek to be different and improve. Because of the need to improve ,stiff competition kicks off in everyday life. Countries strive to keep ahead, spending millions on investment which yields returns, all aimed to improve the quality of life in the city.
- Develop cities is the presence of competition.
Some eg. of competition
- Race to be the pride if your parents
- Strive to be top of the education
- Compete to make the most money etc.
- Strive for excellence in all field.
Narrow down: Public Transportation
Scenario: LET PEOPLE ALIGHT THE MRT FIRST!
Possible reason why the rush
- To get a seat
- Afraid that there is no space and have to wait for another train
- Rushing for time
- Rushing to school/work
- Don’t want to miss their favorite shows at home.
What kind at effort taken by SMRT for this problem?
- Making a yellow curve line for boarding and aligthing
- Frequent reminder “Please give way to alighting passengers before boarding.”
The word “Please give way to alighting passengers before boarding” seem to have no effort on them. Some of them might be rushing for time but does being poor gave you the right to steal? Does having a full bladder give you the right to pee anywhere?
Living in a fast paced society definitely robs us the time to enjoy the succor of our family and the time available for self indulgence. It is usually those that choose to lead a slower pace life leave a comfort of a city life to run down village, to really understand the meaning of life and the sanctity of what life has to offer.

This is my group observation of the shoppers at NTUC Fairprice. We went there on Tuesday 27th October, 1200
Items brought by customers (most)
- Greens
- Food
- Drinks
- Cooking ingredients.
Customers/shoppers tend to observe which cashier has the shortest line before paying.
Crowded section (seen)
- poultry/vegetables/meat/dairy.
Why? (to cook for a family breakfast)
- Elderly people tends to ask questions for cheapest price before quality.
- A place where people tends to meet their long-distant/ close friends.
- Customers/ shoppers still ask for the price although it has been labeled/stated.
- No children/ teenagers seen as mostly because they are at school.
- Less people seen to bring their own trolley from home than one provided.
- Shopper tested the samples provided before purchasing.
- Not much people seen in laundry section.
- people bringing their own trolley along in case of lack of space.
- Few people spotted at sports section (Adults)
- Shoppers brought their own trolley/bags in order to insert their groceries after paying to reduce weight.
What I learned.
Shoppers there do take their time to complete their groceries even though they have a list of what they need. People want to do stuff easier for themselves so almost everything they do should take little effort (eg. Nets/Credit instead of cash). Shoppers sometimes are impatients. They want everything to be fast. They even can’t stand still without fidgeting around while waiting for their turn at the cashier. ( eg. observing which cashier has the shortest line ) . All in all, NTUC Fairprice to make life for the shoppers easier. However they still have space for improvement.

I have done some researched on social/ethical problems. I will start with my personal social problem that I faced throughout life itself. Mostly Friends.
- - Peer Pressure
- - Being Accepted
- - Being Left Out
There are a lot of common everyday social problem that the public neglected.

- MRT – congestion at the entrance (Impatience)
- MRT – Seats for the senior citizen (Ignorance)

- Smokers – Ignorance of people who are non smokers (Intolerance)
- Toilet – Never Flush (Ignorance)
- - Prefer elevators/escalators than stairs
There is somehow a communication problem where people are so use to chatting online than meeting up which could effect the way they meet a person in the future. They are so used to chatting online which they can say anything confidently that when it comes to meeting up, they find it hard to talk.
